How do you approach a new year. Do you look behind, or are you looking ahead? Are you optimistic about new opportunities and anticipate good things to come? Do you struggle with possible changes?
As I asked myself these questions, I had to say at times, “All the above.”
For the most part I am optimistic, I see the glass half full. Why is that? I try to view things through the prism of God’s word. I read it through every year, day by day, week by week. Then I study it. Why would I do that? Because I need wisdom to guide me. I don’t know what is ahead any given day, but I know the One who does.
My year ended with Revelation 22:6a,7b “…These words are faithful and true…Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.”
What a way to end the year; Wisdom, blessing, truth, and faithfulness.
The new year starts afresh and I read:
Genesis 1:1a. “In the beginning GOD…
Psalm1:1a,2 “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly… But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.”
Proverbs 1:5,7 “A wise man will hear and increase learning, and a man of understanding will attain wise counsel,…The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom.
Matthew 1: 22-23 “All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying; “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel,” which translated, “God with us.”
My year begins walking with God through the pages of what was, what is, and is to come. In the light of his majesty and splendor, I see my own inadequacy, my deep need for His wisdom and guidance.
We can seek God and find wisdom and knowledge, which brings a fruitful life of blessing; or we can despise the wisdom of God, and follow the wisdom of this world that will only lead to futility and frustration.
How will you begin this New Year?
JOY IN THE JOURNEY… IS SEEKING WISDOM
