JOY IN THE JOURNEY IS COLORFUL!

Updated: Nov 2, 2022

Do you give much thought to your journey, or do you simply take up space wherever you find yourself on any given day? Whether we realize it or not we are all on a journey. Journey gives the idea of a destination, a goal. What is your destination today?

I love rainbows. Seven colors that can make Ten Million different colors the human eye can see, plus the ones we can’t see. After the rain the air smells sweet, and when the ground is refreshed, you look up and there it is, that bow of colors that seem to reach down and say, It is finished. I met my goal today.

There was a time when there was no rain, and no such thing as a rainbow.

Rainbows have a special purpose..

There was a man named Noah who lived long ago at a time when God said, “Man’s thoughts are continually evil.” Because of all the evil, God set out to destroy mankind that He had made. But Noah was a good man who feared God, so God determined to save him and his family from the great judgment that was to come. God gave Noah and his family a way of escape through the building of a great ship, which would sustain them on their journey.

One day the waters that were underground broke out upon the earth, rain began to fall for the very first time. While Noah and his family were safe in God’s ship all mankind was outside and would be completely destroyed, because they did not believe God or follow Him. The rains came down for forty days and forty nights, and the vast reservoirs filled the whole earth until it was completely covered over every high mountain.

Noah and his family were kept safely in the ark of God. After almost a year the ship rested on dry ground. Noah and his family left the ark and built an alter to worship God and give Him thanks for the safe journey. Then God gave Noah a special promise, called a covenant: “He would never destroy the earth again by a flood.” He sealed His promise with the first rainbow, so that He would be reminded of the covenant he made with Noah.

Every time I see a rainbow I’m reminded of how faithful God is at keeping His promises. I don’t have to fear or be overwhelmed by any flood because I’m safely kept in the ark of His hand.

There is another promise, or covenant, that God has faithfully kept. He promised to send us a Savior. Because He desires that none would perish under judgment. So, in the fullness of time, Jesus came down from heaven. Born of a woman, a baby boy, yet still fully God. He was on a purposeful journey. His journey would take Him all the way to a cruel cross. It was there where He captured my heart as He bore the full wrath of God for the sin of mankind. He bled and died for me. In His death I am set free from the penalty of sin. He was buried in a borrowed tomb, because He was not going to need it for long. On the third day he came out of that tomb under His own power. Because He lives, sin longer has power over me.

The joy in my journey is all about the destination. I know where I’m going. There are many facets of color I face on any given day. Some I like better than others. No matter the color of my day, I know for certain that I’m being kept for my destination, Heaven. How do I know this? Because God is faithful to fulfill His promise because I have trusted in His power to save.

I would love for you to join me in the journey. You will find safe keeping in the hands of Jesus, who is faithful to keep His promises..

Joy in the Journey is colorful.
